Installing Worker

Download and install the Worker application on your computer

Worker is available as a standalone desktop application for macOS, Windows, and Linux. This guide covers downloading and installing Worker on your computer.

Downloading Worker

Visit the Download Page

Go to the Worker download page on our website to get the latest version for your operating system.

Select Your Platform

Choose the appropriate download for your system:

Linux.AppImage or .deb

Download the Installer

Click the download link and save the file to your computer.

Installing on macOS

Open the Downloaded File

Double-click the .dmg file to mount it, or open the .app file directly.

Move to Applications (Optional)

Drag the Worker app to your Applications folder for easy access.

First Launch

When launching Worker for the first time:

  • macOS may warn about an app from an unidentified developer
  • Right-click the app and select Open to bypass the warning
  • Click Open in the dialog to confirm

Grant Permissions

Worker may request permissions for:

  • Network access - To communicate with Aura
  • File access - To read/write your working directory

Approve these permissions when prompted.

On macOS, Worker appears as an icon in your menu bar (system tray) when running.

Installing on Windows

Run the Installer

Double-click the .exe file to start installation.

Follow Installation Wizard

  • Accept the license agreement
  • Choose installation location (default is fine)
  • Complete the installation

Windows Security

Windows Defender SmartScreen may block the app:

  • Click More info
  • Click Run anyway

Launch Worker

  • Find Worker in the Start menu
  • Or run the executable directly from the installation folder

Windows Firewall: When Worker first runs, Windows Firewall may ask to allow network access. Click Allow to enable Aura to communicate with Worker.

Installing on Linux

Make Executable (AppImage)

If using an AppImage:

chmod +x Worker-*.AppImage

Run the Application

For AppImage:

./Worker-*.AppImage

For .deb package:

sudo dpkg -i worker-*.deb

Install Dependencies (if needed)

Some systems may require additional libraries:

sudo apt-get install libfuse2

Verifying Installation

After installation, verify Worker is working:

Launch Worker

Start the Worker application. You should see:

  • A system tray icon (menu bar on macOS)
  • A small window or notification indicating Worker is running

Check the Tray Icon

Click the Worker tray icon to see:

  • Version number
  • Port number (default: 8000)
  • Status: OK

Test in Aura

Open Aura in your browser and check the Worker status indicator in the left sidebar:

  • Green dot = Connected successfully
  • Red dot = Not connected (see troubleshooting)

Running Worker

Starting Worker

Worker can be started:

  • From Applications - Double-click the app icon
  • From system startup - Configure your OS to launch Worker at login
  • From command line - Run the executable directly

System Tray

When running, Worker shows a tray icon with options:

  • Status - Shows version and connection status
  • Restart - Restart the Worker service
  • Quit - Stop Worker

For convenience, configure Worker to start automatically:

macOS:

  1. Open System Preferences → Users & Groups
  2. Select Login Items
  3. Add Worker to the list

Windows:

  1. Press Win + R, type shell:startup
  2. Add a shortcut to Worker in the startup folder

Linux: Configure according to your desktop environment's autostart mechanism.

Updating Worker

When a new version is available:

  1. Download the latest version from the website
  2. Quit the currently running Worker
  3. Install the new version (replaces the old)
  4. Launch the updated Worker

Worker updates are independent of Aura. You can update Worker without affecting your Aura account or projects.
